I was looking forward to the new season of True Blood on HBO, ever since I heard it would introduce werewolves. I think what they did with vampires is fantastic, so I had high hopes for the addition of Werewolves in the new 3rd season.
I watched the first episode of the 3rd season last night, and sadly they blew it.
They totally ruined it, and they opted to go the Twilight route with their werewolves. Instead of dealing with transforming, and even making them resemble any incarnation, of any movie werewolf to come before them, they decided to simply use plain old Wolves. They're not even scary-looking wolves either.
Plain, actual wolves. At least in Twilight they made them larger than average wolves. This was no doubt a way to keep the budget down, and to cheap out on special effects, and it's sad, because I had high hopes for this new season. It's clear to me now, that they're only trying to capture some of the Twilight tween audience with their cheap-ass werewolves.
I should have expected as much tho, as very few good series end up keeping the momentum, and interest of viewers beyond the 2nd season these days. After seeing the first episode of the 3rd season, I now have a notion, that True Blood won't be renewed for a 4th season after this stupidity. That's too bad, they had the potential to pull off something really cool, and dropped the ball totally.
I guess I have to wait the BBC to kick off the next season of Being Human for my werewolf fix, at least they aren't afraid to do it right.
