I probably should blog more, but call me old fashioned, because I just don't think the entire world is interested in what I have to say every 10 minutes. I'm mean really, how did Twitter take off? Are people that bored, and that interested in everyone else's lives and business, and lack any life or business of their own so much, that now what everyone else does it more interesting? And is three lines of text really that interesting to follow?
How can this possibly be in a day and age when most children will never touch a deck of cards, play kickball, or just leave the confines of their room to see what the sun looks like, all because there is so much more to do ourselves in this technological age? We have so much to do... I'd say at least 20X more things to do than when I was a kid, and now people care about what everyone else is doing too?
We have so many electronic gadgets, distractions and video games to play, that now one could go their entire lifetime without ever experiencing a true social experience even if they wanted to, and most rarely do so because of these technological distractions.
I watched my oldest son who's 17 lose his mind, because he broke his cell phone a few days ago, and had to do without txt messaging for a few days. He had to actually speak with people over the phone, in complete sentences no less! OMG, WTF, LOL? Right?
I still don't see the whole point to txt messages too. It takes me longer to type on a microscopic keyboard, than it is for me to dial the number, and speak the few sentences I have to say. If you ask me, txt messaging is an evolutionary step backwards! It certainly does nothing to encourage grammar, spelling and use of the English language in its proper form. Don't get me started on the total freakin morons who are now txting while driving too.
Yeah, we thought idiots with their ear to the cell phone while driving was bad. Now we have thousands of teenage girls who can't drive as it is, not watching the road AT ALL txting, while commanding thousands of pounds of metal at 35+ MPH. Keep in mind a car moving 2-5-MPH kills a person, or five just the same.
Yay for technolgy right? This is no different than a drunk driver either, both are impared and distracted from the task at hand. Both types of drivers do this voluntarily too. The difference is, police don't take txt messaging as seriously as drunken driving, but there's NO difference at all if you ask me.
It's not being drunk, but the effect of being drunk that makes a drunk wreck a car, and being totally distracted in another world txting is the same in my book.
When some teenage girl wipes out a family, or someones grandma in the crosswalk, because she just had to tell Angelica about how Edward wants to go out with her Saturday night, sadly, then and only then will people begin to take notice.
It's great that we have so many ways to reach out and speak with people, especially so many people that we will never in our lifetime meet, or care to meet. So while I think there are many pluses to all the technological advances we have today, at the same time, we're taking evolutionary steps backwards while we do. To say "text messaging is an better form of communication, than simply dialing the phone and talking" is just as much of a paradox, as saying "war is peace" if you ask me.
Am I crazy? I prefer the term Mad. However I don't think I'm wrong about the above. What do you think?
